In the book How to take smart notes the author claims that writing down our thoughts and ideas allow to questions and arguments to arise. Considering:

• what stated above
• and that asking questions and making arguments are two necessary elements of critical thinking (see Critical thinking basic elements) therefore I believe that note taking is a necessary component of critical thinking.
