How shared values and competence help to gain coordination
Develop competence and clarify values are essential factors to motivate a group of people to reach a common goal.
There are other important factors like autonomy and relatedness that help to gain motivation. However I think that developing competence and clarifying values are essential not only to motivate people but also to gain coordination of their actions to reach the goal.
With coordination I mean that people agree about the way to reach the goal and act accordingly.
There are at least two reasons why people act without coordination. One reason is that people evaluate as important/valuable different aspects. Here the importance to clarify and have shared values. When people have shared values, the direction is the same. This helps to gain coordination of intentions.
Another reason is that people do not know what is the more effective and efficient way to satisfy the values and reach a common goal.
Developing competence allows to be able to distinguish what is valuable and what is the effective and efficient ways to reach a goal.
Therefore when people have the same values, competence allows them to likely choose the same way to reach a goal and then coordinate their actions.
Therefore shared values and competence allow to gain coordination.
