Paolo's learning notes

Change the environment to obtain what you want

In the book How to take smart notes the author cites the professor in behaviour economics Richard Thaler that in one of his books argues that:

  • The environment can be changed.
  • The environment may impede us to make the habits necessary to obtain what we want.
    • For example, if you want to make the habit to eat healthy and you have chips and chocolate in your kitchen, it is more difficult to eat healthy. If you do not have chips and chocolate in your kitchen is instead simpler. In the second case the environment is helping you to modifying your behaviour and reaching your goals.
  • Changing the environment reducing the friction that impede us to obtain what we want, increase the likelihood to obtain what we want.
