The course Critical Thinking - Foundamentals of Good Reasoning defines arguments as a collections of declarations that may be true or false, one of which is the conclusion that is derived by other arguments called premises.

For example a conclusion can be: Regular exercise promotes physical health

The premises that support this conclusion can be:

  • Regular exercise increases cardiovascular fitness
  • Regular exercise strengthens muscles and bones
  • *Regular exercise improves mental health by reducing stress and anxiety
  • *High cardiovascular fitness, strong muscles and bones and low level of stress and anxiety promote physical health.
